English Country SchoolsCourse Information
Course DescriptionOur Summer 2008 residential junior vacation courses take place at Port Regis School, set in its own large, private grounds in beautiful Dorset in the South of England, about 2 hours from London. This course is personally managed by the directors of English Country Schools, Christopher and Sarah Etchells, who live on site during the summer with their family to oversee the smooth-running of the course. Excellent on-site facilities include a nine-hole golf-course, tennis courts, an all-weather hockey pitch, a large sports hall and a 25-metre indoor heated swimming-pool. Horse riding is also available near the school. Accommodation at the school is particularly good. Older boys and girls have separate, modern buildings with single-room "cubicles", each with its own hand-basin, desk and wardrobe. Younger children have cosy shared rooms with up to 5 beds per room. The course combines English Language learning with a programme of sports, social activities and excursions. There are many interesting and historic places to visit in the area. The world-famous Neolithic site of Stonehenge is a short distance from the school. The Roman town of Bath, the cathedral city of Salisbury and the beautiful beaches of Dorset are all within easy travelling distance. Students can choose an optional extra 2-night trip to London, enabling them to see much more of this great city than is possible during a one-day visit. And the whole course is Accredited by The British Council.
