About The School

The ELC was established in 1997 by Hugh and Judy Macdermot in the beautiful city of York, with the aim of offering top quality courses in a welcoming and professional atmosphere. The school has grown considerably and now has 18 classrooms and a multi-media centre, but has retained its famously friendly touch.

The school is housed in a 250 year old Georgian building in the centre of the historic city, only a few minutes walk from acclaimed attractions including the world-famous ‘York Minster’. In June 2007 York was named European Tourism City of the Year at the European Cities Tourism Awards. The city offers a wealth of restaurants and bars, theatres, cinemas and much more. We offer a lively social programme throughout the year which takes advantage of the city, as well as the beautiful countryside around us.

One-to-one Courses
Business English
English for Finance and Banking
Summer Programmes for Adults and Juniors

We are also an accredited centre for the University of Cambridge Teacher Training Courses – CELTA and DELTA, and an accredited Centre for TOEIC examinations.
